Omron hosts European EtherCAT Plug Fest 2013

November 07, 2013

Major vendors of EtherCAT masters, slaves and tools gathered in The Netherlands on 29-30 October for the autumn 2013 edition of the European EtherCAT Plug Fest.
This major event for product developers was an ideal platform for EtherCAT vendors to test and improve interoperability of their products and share development know-how. It was the first time the European event has been held outside Germany and it was a great success from both, organizational as well as a connectivity point of view. Hosted at Omron Europe BV’s manufacturing and development site in‘s-Hertogenbosch, a total of 16 companies took part in the event. Tests were carried out on 6 masters, 2 tools and 40 slave devices.

EtherCAT technology

EtherCAT - today’s fastest Industrial Ethernet technology - is an open Ethernet-based networking standard optimized for machine automation, offering unrivalled real-time performance. It not only offers high speed and determinism, but also flexibility in topology, plus comparatively low system costs.

Omron solutions with EtherCAT

Building on proven quality products and with over 50 years’ experience in machine automation, we offer a wide range of EtherCAT products that includes motion controllers, servo systems, inverters, robotics, vision systems, safety controllers and distributed I/O modules. We provide easy integration of these products in a single machine network to create complete and flexible machine automation solutions.
Typical of the above products is our Sysmac NJ-series machine controller, which provides logic and motion control fully integrated in one platform. EtherCAT allows the NJ controller to manage up to synchronized 64 motion axes with less than 1 µs jitter, using a comprehensive set of application-oriented motion commands.

Benefits for developers and customers

Organized by the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG), which has broad support throughout many industries, the EtherCAT Plug Fests give developers from member companies a hands-on opportunity to improve the interoperability of their products. Their efforts will result in easier installation, faster engineering and better integrated machine solutions at their mutual customers.
As an active and prominent ETG member, we take pride in our world-renowned reputation for high quality and user-friendliness. “When we say it works, it works. Events such as EtherCAT Plug Fest are important to ensure that our products with EtherCAT technology exceed the expectations of our customers” says our Tsunagi Lab team leader Anthony van Lent
